Another Broken Egg
One Sunday, the hubby and I ventured out to try brunch at Another Broken Egg in Jones Valley. Being that it was Sunday, we expected a bit of a wait but we were unprepared for the 45 minute delay the hostess warned us to expect. Apparently, several others must have had the same reaction and decided to leave because less than 10 minutes later, we were seated.

The menu offers a dizzying array of choices, many separated by only small changes, and it made my head swim a bit trying to discern the differences. Eventually we settled on a Bacado omlet for the hubby and Popeye’s favorite scramble for me. The restaurant was fairly noisy with music and chatter but we were still able to carry on a reasonable conversation.

While we waited for our food, I scoped out the handmade pottery available for sale. They were beautiful pieces, but I’m still a bit confused as to why I would want a souvenir bud vase or mug from a restaurant, let alone one that is not in a tourist-y location.

Once our food arrived, I turned my attention to more important matters. My scramble (pictured at the top of the post) was served hot, loaded with thickly cut bacon, and topped generously with jack cheese. The spinach, however, tasted a bit off, almost as though it might be frozen and the onion was completely lost among the other flavors.

The potatoes were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Seasoned with only salt, the potato skins provided the majority of the flavor. The English muffin was of the soft fluffy variety with the slightly musty taste that is characteristic of English muffins. The accompanying butter was fresh, light, and delicious and caught the notice of both the hubby and myself. The orange slices were best treated as garnish and ignored as they were watery and out of season.

The hubby enjoyed his omelet, noting that the salsa was mild but flavorful.

While the food was respectable, Another Broken Egg will not be a recurring favorite for us. There are too many other great brunch places in town where we can get food which is equally good or better and which is a better value.

Total for the meal: $26.91 (included two entrées and two soft drinks)
