Weigh In Wednesday
Last week’s poll asked how you decide where to eat. 100% of respondents said they choose based on the type of food they felt like and 83% will opt for a place they’ve never tried. 66% will choose based on price or on the suggestions of others, and 50% will return to places they’ve had good experiences or select somewhere they have a discount/coupon for. 33% selected places for their ambiance with only 16% picking wherever was closest. None of the respondents would select a place just for a broad menu, in an attempt to please everyone.

I’ve picked places based on all of the above at one point or another. In recent years, my decisions are based much more on the quality of the food and the ambiance. I don’t want to sit in loud restaurants or suffer through another boring meal. But that is tied in with my purpose in going out, which we discussed earlier. When my purpose in going out is to have a specific conversation, I don’t really care what I eat–the food is not the point. But when I dine out for pleasure, I want it to be, well, pleasurable. I want to have delicious food, relaxing or interesting ambiance, and attentive service.
